Work for the Dole is a Government program funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) which involves unemployed people in mutual obligation activities, provides support to community groups with important project work and provides participants with additional skills and experiences that can assist in their job seeking.
OCTEC's role is that of Community Work Coordinator and manages Work for the Dole and other Community Work Programs. We help provide many unemployed people with work experience in a range of skills areas, including:
* gardening * material recycling * clerical support retail sales * building repair and construction * sporting facility maintenance * restoration of railway equipment and other historic items * meal preparation * repairing and building furniture * working with the aged.
The work is carried out for community based organisations who might not otherwise have been able to get their projects completed. They include:
* Churches * Historical societies * Schools * Hospitals * Opportunity shops * Youth groups * Soup kitchens * Meals on Wheels * Welfare organisations
