Tragically, Kristy\u2019s life was cut short in June 2023 when she fell victim to domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her honour, the event celebrated Kristy\u2019s life in a format that had given her so much joy, whilst raising awareness about the critical issue of domestic violence, and rallying the community for positive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event involved more than 12 hours of softball, with everyone from complete novices up to current Australian players taking the pitch. Over $23,000 was raised in donations alone. OCTEC staff raised over $1,000 on top of our guardian sponsorship. All money raised was split 50\/50 between Kristy\u2019s three girls and the running of Napcan\u2019s ‘Love Bites’ domestic violence education program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristy\u2019s playing number was officially retired in a commemoration ceremony before her former Masters team took to the field for a showcase match with Australia\u2019s finest softball talent on display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event extended beyond the realm of sport, with members of the community touched by family and domestic violence able to seek guidance and assistance in a safe and empathetic environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An OCTEC team of 16 took the field and we look forward to taking part again next year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Kristy lost her life to domestic violence in June 2023.
